Camera Obscura
The camera obscura still fascinates me even though this is the second time I have learned about it. The idea that light reflects upside-down and will portray a perfect image amazes me. It mimics the way that the eye works. Our eyes take in light upside-down and our brain flips it around. My digital imaging professor showed us a film that mentioned the camera obscura. One piece of the film that stuck out to me talked about rich women and their use of the camera obscura. Rich women in the old days, who were interested in art, would take the small portable version of a camera obscura, sit by the lake, and sketch the image that came through the hole in the box. One of their husbands got jealous because he had no sketching ability. It motivated him to invent the camera.
