Les Miserables

For my last blog about opera I'm choosing to talk about my personal experience. The closest thing I have ever experienced to an opera in real life is Les Miserables (the movie version). Most people conclude that Les Miserables isn't a true opera because the music is modern. I think it shares many similarities to the opera. When I was a child my mom would play the sound track to Les Mis in the car so I know all of the songs. She always said that when I was older she would take me to see it. At the time she thought the gun violence would be too much for me to handle. We ended up seeing the movie together, but I still hope that one day we can see it together live! My favorite number from Les Mis is the song that Claudette sings Castle on a Cloud.
